Antonette Kanu was borne in Sierra Leone, moving to the US at age 13. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and her Masters of Science in Nursing both at Kent State in Ohio. Her exceptional training and work experience has included Cleveland Clinics, Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore and Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, a teaching hospital affiliated with Georgetown University.
After Antonette moved to the US at age 13, she attended Orange Park High School in Orange Park Florida. While in high school, she became an active member of Amnesty International, advocating for people throughout the world who were struggling against injustices.
After graduating high school, she enrolled at Cambridge Medical Institute, earning her first degree as an Associate of Science in Nursing, in May 2012. While at Cambridge Medical, she worked as a dietary aid at a long-term care facility, where she came to love the daily interactions with her patients.
In 2016, Antonette began working as an Oncology Nurse at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore, providing nursing care to cancer patients. A few years after working at Mercy, she became increasingly inspired to provide more advanced care.
Antonette earned her BSN (Bachelor of Science) at Kent State University. Two years later, she completed Kent State’s rigorous Master of Science in Nursing specializing as Family Nurse Practitioner.
While earning her advanced nursing degrees, she worked at Cleveland Clinic in the step-down cardiac telemetry unit.
In 2020 began working at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, a teaching hospital affiliated with George Washington University, working with medical, surgical and oncology patients and then Washington Vascular Specialists.
Antonette focuses on family medicine, urgent care, and managing chronic diseases. She has 12 years of nursing experience in long-term care, wound care, oncology, and telemetry and 2 years of Nurse Practitioner in Internal Medicine.
Antonette Kanu holds her national board certification with the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) as a Family Nurse Practitioner as well as the following certifications: Certified Nurse Practitioner, Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner, Basic Life Support certification, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification, CPR certification, AED certification, AHA certification, DEA certification.
